Well, drug addictions are tough beasts to slay.

The front of house lost a few staff in the first week but things have stabliized. The back of house proved too much for some cooks in training because of the long hours (certainly not the work-a-day world hours) and some have left, including a fellow I interviewed for stories I did.

But meals are coming out from Convcition Kitchen and Thuet and Zorich are quite serious about making a difference to those disenfranchised because of their drug addictions. This Sunday evening (July 18), they’ll be taking a van with soup and sandwiches to the Salvation Army soup kitchen in the Downtown Eastside.

“Thuet has had his own struggles with drug addictions and coming back to Vancouver, especially the Downtown Eastside, is only a reminde rof the lessons he learned in the past and the reaosn why he is so passionate about making a difference,” a press release about the Sunday event says.

“I’d much rather be rolling up my sleeves and feeding the Downtown East side over a black tie fundraising event,” says Zorich. “This is where we can affect change. We want to help these people directly.”
